01 / Overview
The Vault needed an online presence that could showcase its vintage vehicle inventory while also supporting sales of car parts and accessories.
The solution combines a custom WordPress inventory experience with a scheduled data integration process and a WooCommerce store. Rather than relying on manual website updates, the inventory synchronization workflow uses data exported from the company's existing local system.
Existing inventory data feeds the online vehicle listings.
Automotive parts and accessories are available through WooCommerce.
02 / The challenge
The company's existing local system generated inventory records as CSV files, along with the associated vehicle photos. These files were automatically uploaded to a designated server directory.
The website needed a process to read these files, recognize existing vehicles, create new records, update changed information, and organize the associated photos so they could be displayed correctly.
The core requirement
Connect the existing inventory workflow to WordPress through scheduled processing, with support for both data updates and vehicle photo handling.
03 / The solution
A custom cron job connects the company's local inventory exports to the WordPress database. It runs every midnight to process the available files and keep vehicle records updated.
The existing local system generates CSV inventory data and the corresponding vehicle photos.
A cron job runs every midnight and scans the designated server directory for inventory files.
New vehicles are inserted into WordPress, while existing records are updated instead of duplicated.
Imported photos are moved into the appropriate WordPress uploads directories for website access.
The midnight job automates the import workflow. New vehicle records are inserted, existing records are updated, and associated photos are moved into the relevant WordPress uploads directories.
